Parents, Children & Sunday School

Many principles and practices we currently follow as adults are ones we learned in our  youth and childhood. Wouldn’t you agree? Train up a child in the way he should go; even when he is old he will not depart from it. Parents like to claim this promise for their children from Proverbs. Our part is to train. So how are we doing?

Bible stories and principles are taught at home first. Parents read with young children asking questions to see what they remember. A Bible story book with pictures is a must. (We might rather hand the child our gadget, but read them a book instead.)

Deuteronomy 6:7 is very specific to parents, “Repeat God’s words again and again to your children. Talk about them when you are at home and when you are on the road, when you are going to bed and when you are getting up.” That verse even includes while sitting in traffic! How much time do you speak and discuss with your child? God is clear about His desire for us to converse with our kids.

Older students find the true events of Scripture teach us how to live well even in today’s ungodly society. We can be prepared to call on God’s power to resist temptations and bad habits. He can comfort us when we face difficulties. Such amazing principles are discovered when learning about the lives of Bible heroes like Joseph, Abraham, Moses and David. All these characters had big problems. We can learn from their mistakes.

When students come every Sunday, they begin to build healthy church friendships. This makes coming something to look forward to. Most students come from different schools so the only time they see each other is on Sunday. Does your child attend Sunday School? If not, there’s a place for them during all our three services. If the answer is “Yes,” be sure to ask about the lesson. Hopefully, they can answer with some interesting information for a discussion.

Another great opportunity for your child to joyfully grow in their faith is coming up soon. Sign them up for a fun week at GCF East’s Vacation Bible School. You will know they are in good hands as they stay active with music, games, crafts and lessons that bring glory to God.
